I bought this brand after having used both Synflex and Flexicose with my two senior dogs. I figured they must be doing some good even though I didn't see any really obvious changes. My dog is a larger dog (60+lbs) and 13-1/2 years old. Last summer her hips were getting so bad she could hardly go on a walk every day. We started her on a regiment of the Nuti-Vet, and lo-and-behold, she is now able to walk everyday, and also extended walks several times a week in the woods. She has been able to get herself back on the couch to snooze at her leisure. I am very impressed and so happy we got them for her. We passed this on to a few friends who have older pets with problems

My only complaint is that for a 40-lb dog (and below) you have to cut the pills in half. And they crumble more than cut. Use a pill cutter for better results. Directions: one dose each morning and evening.

I've never heard of this product, but I can't imagine incorporating any Omega 6 in a formulation that addresses joint pain. Omega 6s support the immune system, which includes the inflammatory response (i.e., joint pain). Omega 3s counter-balance the inflammatory response. Nutritionally, Omega 6s are very stable and unlikely to be deficient in any sensible diet; Omega 3s are very unstable, and so people and animals all generally benefit from supplemental levels of Omega 3.

Lable was faded. Could not read expiration date. Tablets seemed old and crumbled much easier then the exact same one I bought from Petsmart before.

I have an 11 year old lab who, prior to giving her this product, had lost interest in her daily walks ; groaned every time she lay down. I knew she was in pain. I had her on prescription pain pills from the vet ; had tried several other products with Glucosamine without any noticeable difference. The ingredient list on this item is impressive, so I decided to try one more item. Now, after a month using this product, she no longer groans ; is enjoying her walks again, as much as her age will allow. Price is unimportant if my best friend isn't suffering.

We have a very active, large 6 year old dog with only three legs. Five years after her accident she struggeled to walk. Our dogs love this product. They see the bottle and sit immediately anxiously waiting for their "treat". Hard to say how well it works. Don't know what the recourse might be if they were pulled off this product. Been on it for years.

Very pricey. Dog hates it. Doesn't work! Dog was on this for almost 3 full months ; he got worse. Not worth the money. If your pet is having arthritic troubles don't bother with this product, go straight to pain meds ; anti-inflammatory meds. That's all that will work.

My 6-year-old Sheltie started developing arthritis in her hind leg, due to degeneration from a severe sprain when she was a puppy. Her leg stiffened when she laid down for any length of time, she walked with a pronounced limp and occasionally even held the leg off the ground when standing. She was obviously in pain, and would decline to come investigate when the other dogs barked at something or started to play; she would just stay lying down and looking sad. :(
Rymadil didn't really help, and because of the severe potential side-effects, I was uncomfortable keeping her on it for minimal improvement. My vet recommended a glucosamine supplement, and after reading reviews on multiple sites and comparing ingredient lists, I decided on Cosequin Soft Chews Plus--and I am SO glad I did! She LOVES the taste--scarfs the "treat" down, and reminds me (by jumping up and down next to the cookie jar!) if she thinks I have forgotten to give it to her after breakfast.
After about two weeks on the starting dose (2 treats per day instead of the maintenance dose of 1), we started to see a noticeable improvement. Now, a little over a month after starting treatment, her limp is almost gone, and she is visibly happier and more involved around the house, running and playing like she used to. Who would have thought a simple (if a bit stinky!) treat could have made such a difference
They're a bit expensive, but it's totally worth it--it can't hurt to try, so I would definitely recommend you buy a bag of 60 and try 2 a day for a month...hopefully your pup will improve as drastically as mine did, and you'll become a dedicated customer like I am
UPDATE:
I ran out of these for about ten days or so. During that time, Piper's limp returned; she stopped showing interest in games, and yelped a couple times when standing up after a long nap. She obviously knew what was up, as she kept wandering mournfully over to the empty jar looking for her magic treats. My reorder finally arrived (that's what I get for not ordering through Amazon)--we've been giving her the starting dose (2 treats) again for just TWO DAYS, and she is already visibly less stiff, and running, jumping, and playing again. I have learned my lesson for sure, and will never be without these again!

My chihuahua pomeranian mix has luxating patellas (sliding kneecaps), which were causing his back legs to be very stiff and painful. He stopped being active and wouldn't climb stairs. I started the chews as instructed, and within two weeks I noticed a difference. My dog is moving much more quickly now, and he seems to have more energy. He also just seems to be happier, which makes me think the chews have really helped with his arthritic pain. His legs are definitely not as stiff anymore either. I am really happy with this product.

I could not recommend this product more highly. I have a 12 year old german shepherd who suffers with arthritis. Our vet had prescribed Meloxicam, an NSAID. However, that category of drugs carries significant risks (ulcer formation as well as kidney or liver damage or failure). In my companion's case, it caused an ulcer even though I gave him Pepcid before each dose of Meloxicam.
A store owner recommended this product, and within less than one week, there was so much improvement I was able to completely discontinue the NSAID, and my dog is now even better than he was when he was on the NSAID medication.
Please note though that this is not the best concentration for large breed dogs. I learned that Liquid Health's 'L-5000' is designed for large dogs and is more highly concentrated. It too, is extremely effective.
I strongly urge the use of this supplement before resorting to medications that can cause serious to fatal internal damage.
My dog also finds it palatable, and I have not had any trouble feeding it to him, I just mix it in with his kibbles twice daily.

I've been supplementing with K-9 Liquid Health Glucosamine/chond with MSM for well over a year now and I know my senior dogs have a better quality of life because of it. So much so that I am also giving it preemtively to my younger dogs. It's easy to administer; I just pour it on their dry food. They've never turned up their nose at it.

We have an 11 year old Jack Russell Terrier, who still runs and jumps like a puppy. Lately we noticed that when he lays down in the evening, he has a hard time getting up. Our cat was near death from liver failure (due to an itchy ear medicine she had been given) and after having an ultrasound that showed no organ damage the vet wanted to take a biopsy of her liver to see if she had liver cancer from the medicine and we said no that would be too painful but we said what would you treat her with if she did have cancer the vet said chemotherapy or Denamarin, probably Denamarin first to see if her function came back. So we said to skip the biopsy and just give her the medicine, which they did. Well long story short she started eating again (bit by bit) and being able to move herself around and her liver values dropped dramatically and at her last blood test her liver values were better then they had been when she was young. So I think this medicine was literally a life saver for our cat :) And she is back to her old grumpy self :)

I have a 2yr.old pug and she was diganosed with a liver disease so the vet started her on this medicine.... It was 40.00 every month and I found it on Amazon a lot cheaper which really helps when you are on a tight budget.... Thanks Amazon for offering it.....

My Dal eats anything - except when I put this liquid on it. It may be healthy for him, but if it destroys his enjoyment of his food, then I won't be using this product any more.

I started giving this to my 13 year old golden who has no cartilage left in her hips and was barely moving. It did take her a a week or so to get used to the taste but I mixed it with warm water and extra treats in it to make it easier for her until she got used to it. It has definitely helped her. She was bunny hopping the steps and barely moving. She still bunny hops but feels well enough to do it often during the day instead of only 2x a day. The liquid is so much better than the pills because it hits the system faster. I've tried pills before and gotten almost no improvement. After the first week, I was able to back off on the extra food/treats and do just her food with the bellyrubs and some water in her evening meal.

Saved time, gas money, and from running out of product. This has changed my dogs remainding years from me carrying him up and down steps to him running up and down himself. Hard to believe but its true. I know it is a great product because we use this brand name on our horses. Studies are so wonderful on this product its a shame that this version is not yet been approved for humans!

The only reason I did not give this product 5 stars is because of the affect it had on my little guys belly when compared to the soft chews. When my 8 yr old miniature pinscher began having lameness in his rear legs, specifically one that he had previously had surgery on to repair a torn ligament when he was a puppy, we thought he needed something a bit stronger than the cosequin he was already on. Our veterinary technician mentioned that Nutramax had come out with a new product called Dasuquin with MSM. The transition was seemless and he was started on the maintenance level of Dasuquin soft chews immediately because he had already been on the cosequin for a number of years. No change in the first couple of months but after about three months we saw an obvious improvement. The arthritis we believed he was afflicted with in his rear legs became less of an issue after long naps, or long walks. He seemed to bounce back to his old self. While he wouldn't eat the soft chew by itself, as he seemed to know it was medicine, we would mix it with his food each day and he seemed fine with it. However we needed to add a bit more food than we would have liked in order to disguise the chew. We thought the chew tabs would be a better option once the bag of soft chews was finished. Upon switching to the chew tabs it quickly became apparent that his stomach did not agree with the change. Within a half hour of taking the chew tab/food mixture, he would promptly throw up his entire breakfast. We quickly switched back to the soft chews and have had no problems since. Still haven't figured out why his little belly prefers the soft chews to the chew tabs but we are still very happy with all the progress he has made. Rainy days still tend to make him a bit stiff but the Dasuquin soft chews with MSM seems to be the perfect fit for his needs. I highly recommend all Nutramax products as they seem to be the only product that provided any relief to our little guy, but the Dasuquin with MSM is a great product for those dogs who need a bit more help dealing with symptoms of arthritis and lameness.

I have 2 over 10 year old Bassets and the Dasuquin Soft Chews has made a huge difference.
They eagerly await their after dinner treat, gobble it down and then we go for our walk. I have noticed that they move easier, want to ramble ; explore longer and aren't dragging when we come back. They even have more energy.
This is a great product and I highly recommend it.

This product is what has been advised for my 13 year old Brittany. He is a bit slow and stiff. I had been using another product called Flexile, which I can't seem to find in stock anywhere.
I cannot evaluate a difference if any exists. You will have to ask the dog...

We couldn't be more pleased with this product. It was recommended by our vet as being as good as you can get without being a prescription formula. We tried it, and within two weeks saw major improvement in our 11 year old German Shepherd's ability to sit and stand without visible signs of difficulty (which had gotten pretty severe). We'd been using the Nutri-Vet glucosamine before that, and it just wasn't working. According to our vet, the key ingredient here is the MSM. She's been on the pills for about a month and a half now, and you'd never know that she had such trouble just a short time ago. She's up and down just as quickly as she was 5 years ago, and just seems happier as a result of feeling better. If you have an aging pet who's showing signs of joint pain or hip displaysia, I would highly recommend starting them on this product immediately. It will definitley relieve their suffering. If you have a breed that's prone to those problems, consult your vet early, and see if this would be a good preventative to keep their joints healthy before the ability to move becomes an issue.

Product delivered as advertised. I was worried there would be broken pieces but everything seems great! This is really a great deal, especially since I have two very large dogs and we really go through this stuff. I'll be ordering more in 3 months so hopefully the price stays the same.

Recently I rescued a little senior dog from a very bad situation. He did not seem to have alot of strength in his back legs and would at times when trying to go up a couple of steps would fall down on the top stair. I started him on Dasuquin with MSM and within two weeks he has shown a very visible difference in being able to walk farther and his ability to go up stairs is very much improved. I have used this product on my other dogs also and find it to be superior to others that I have tried.

First and foremost, let me say I like what this product has done for my geriatric Greyhounds. I have 6 rescued Greyhounds, ages 7-12. For the last decade, I had used another glucosamine product which I liked. I began researching products as my dogs got older and the vet recommended a higher dosing of not only glucosamine but of the chondroitin as well. On top of that, I insist on products without any junk in them: I want an all natural, no preservative, etc product.
That being said, in less than one month, there is significant improvement in my two eldest gals' movements, ages 11 and 12. Their everyday quality of life is vastly improved; they are playing and socializing with the other 4 again and even initiating the play which they had stopped doing. The oldest had been dropping to the floor like a rock vs. lowering herself slowly and with new product, she is back to being able to slowly get down/up without too much assistance on my part. I will keep purchasing this product for now and, now that I have depleted all the former product by giving it to the younger ones, all 6 will be getting this product now.
The hate relationship I have with this stems from the tablets themselves. I originally purchased 6 bottles of this: one bottle for each dog. There are 90 tablets in each bottle which would have taken me through, I thought, 3 months each.
However, all my dogs weigh more than 70lbs requiring each to get 3 tablets daily: 2 in A.M. and 1 in the P.M. Not so bad. I can live with that. What simply annoys me to no end is the fact that these tablets are a 'hard' tablet about the diameter of a quarter ; depth of 3 stacked quarters. Although these appear to be a hard tablet, they are very soft and easily broken/crushed. And while I would expect a few broken tablets here and there, I found an absolute mess of broken tablets in every bottle of the 6 bottles I purchased with only a handful of tablets still intact. The majority of tablets in each bottle were broken into tiny pieces or simply pulverized into a fine powder (see images and notes) that I can neither piece together guessing I have a complete tablet in hand or measure the fine powder. Lots of waste in each bottle. With the number of dogs I want to keep healthy for as long as possible, the cost of this product, and the inexcusable condition in which the tablets are in the bottle, I'm off to shop around. If I wanted to mess around with measuring this supplement for them each mealtime, I would have shopped for a powder or liquid supplement vs. tablets. And because I will never guess about giving my babies what I think is the right amount of any supplement or medication, the small broken pieces and powder goes down the disposal.
So, I love the active ingredients and natural-ness of this product but don't care much at all for the quality of the tablet design/form themselves. Had the bottles been damaged, cracked, dented, etc upon delivery, I might have expected a few damaged tablets but certainly not what I received in 6 bottles.
Edit: 9/28/11 I found an alternate product with the same % of ingredients and same dosing. Because it was more economical, I ordered the container of 720 tablets. (With 6 dogs at 3 tablets each per day, even this won't last long). It arrived yesterday. And while that container was placed in a cardboard packing box much too large for it, and it certainly had to have banged around in that carton during its journey to my front door, there isn't a single tablet in the container that appears crushed or even broken. The container looks like a child's clear plastic beach pail with a lid and handle (more rectangular than circular but you get the picture) so aside from the few tablets hidden by the label, I can see everything in it. That being said, I'm hoping I see the same results from this newer product that I am seeing with the disappointing product for which this review was written. In just 2 weeks, my geriatric gal who was taking Rimadyl for pain twice daily hasn't needed it for 5 days now. Her energy is back, she initiates play and she is sleeping through the night. I'm hoping for results just as good. If so, I'll switch to the 'pail' product for certain only because the tablets aren't pulverized into dust upon receipt and I'll be able to 'wash my hands' of the mess of this crushed and broken product for good.

Product arrived within 3 days of me ordering it. Within 4 days of me giving it to my dog, Madison, i noticed a great improvement in her mobility. From a slow walk, to now being able to run, she is feeling much better thanks to this product. I was afraid she may not like the taste but she ate it without a fuss. I highly recommend this product. It truly works. I'll be re-ordering as soon as i run out.

I am really happy with this supplement. My goldendoodle Hastings was having a lot of joint pain so I ordered a bottle of this joint support for him. He took the supplement easily I guess he liked the taste anyway I can definitely tell a difference already. He is more like his old self I can tell it is easier for him to get up and down the stairs. I was to say the least, skeptical when my vet recommended Dasuquin with MSM for my elderly Jack Russells, one that is riddled with arthritis in his back and neck. I had tried arthritis supplements before that didn't impress me. So I bought a bottle and hoped for the best. I put my two oldest terriers (15 years and 14 years)on the Dasuquin regimen. I didn't see much of a difference until they were on it for about a month. What a difference it has made! While they will never act like two year-olds anymore, I have seen a change. The oldest hasn't limped and the other that had the arthritis has a lot of his spunk back. No longer does he just slowly walk back to the house, he's running and taking the steps again, and then running through the house like in the old days. I love having this product and not having to use more powerful drugs with harmful side-effects and getting excellent results. To see the sparkle come back in their eyes, I highly recommend it.

Recently my 9 year-old golden retriever began having problems standing on wood floors, his back paws would slide sideways and he would have trouble holding himself up or otherwise walking. This was especially true when he first woke up in the morning, his back legs seemed stiff and he also had trouble going down stairs. He did not have as much trouble on carpets or outside, but it was clear he was having some joint issues.
After doing some online research, I decided to give Osteo Pet Glucosamine Chondroitin for Dogs a try. This same basic formula is also made for humans, incidentally, with excellent results. Read around online and you'll see.
Well, it's only been a few weeks, but my dog's improvement is very noticeable. He no longer has trouble on wood floors, and he can get down the stairs like he used to. No hesitation, no limping, no trouble at all. He likes the bacon flavor of these tablets, which are somewhat large, and he gobbles them down as if they were a dog treat. No issues there whatsoever.
My only concern is that, because my dog weighs about 85 lbs., he needs to take 4 of these tabs every day (per the recommendation on the bottle). This is going to get expensive, but of course, I'd pay alot more to keep him healthy and active.
Bottom line is, this product seems to work very well, and I'm very glad my dog likes the taste of it so it's easy to get him to chew them up. If your dog is having joint issues as well, give this a try and perhaps your dog will respond like mine did. Good luck.

My rescued greyhound equally detests the taste of these pills as the ones the vet sold me originally, but at least I was able to buy them at a much cheaper price on-line. They're supposed to be chewable, which makes them conveniently crushable and easily hidden in tuna or hot dogs or what have you. Besides being more affordable via Amazon, the pills have also eased our 11-year-old dog's hip joint paint. She's again sprinting around the house just shy of her race speed when we first adopted her.

My recent adoptee (his previous owner had to give him up as the owner was at death's door) who is a fatty won't even eat these (he'll eat about anything else). I have to crush them up and mix them with some yogurt and fish oil that I then mix in with his food. With this product he went from being lame (he'd limp with his back right leg) and possibly needing hip surgery and knee surgery, to only needing the knee surgery (apparently his knee caps "pop" out and if this isn't fixed he'll develop problems later). Anyways sucks, that he still needs some surgery, but he went from needing one that would require a whole month of rehabilitation to one where he'll be back home the next day (the rescue agency is paying all of his costs).
My older dog (an akita) went from being in so much pain that it was hard to get her to eat (she was losing weight) to her old self. Both her and the new guy are constantly wrestling around the house and chasing each other around the yard.
I also have my dogs on Phycox JS, so I don't know if the effects I've noticed are solely due to the Dasoquin or not.
